An Update from the Board on Our Church Staff
Dear Church Members,
For several years, Jessica Brown has faithfully, and excellently, filled multiple roles here at Berwick AG. Originally hired as our secretary, she later moved into to the role of Office Manager. That role, designed in 2023, combined the job descriptions and responsibilities of church secretary and the former position of Financial Administrator.
Just before Easter, Jessica communicated with the Board that she had accepted a full-time position with another employer. Because of this, she was offering her resignation from her current role. The level of excellence she has brought – especially to the financial part of her position - is such that we absolutely preferred to keep her if it was at all possible. So, after consideration, and discussion with Jessica, it has been decided that she will remain on staff as Office Manager, but in a more limited capacity – one that focuses only on the day-to-day financial matters of the church.
But the change in hours worked, job description, and responsibilities created a need for a “traditional” church secretary – someone who can meet the non-financial needs that were covered by Jessica previously. While a very part-time position, this is still more than we would reasonably expect to ask of a volunteer. So, it was determined to seek out and hire someone who could adequately perform the necessary duties.
At our most recent meeting, the Board discussed the church secretary position formally, which resulted in someone being contacted and queried about their interest in the position. Subsequently, an in-person meeting was scheduled with two Board members. At the conclusion of this process, an offer for employment was extended and accepted.
We’re happy to introduce Rebekah Winter as our new church secretary. Long a part of our church family, she will join our staff family in June. It’s a blessing to us as a Board, to the existing staff, and to the whole church, that we can hire someone so familiar to us and with us.
Staff adjustments, hiring, transition, and departures are key moments for a church. As a Board, we take our privilege of leadership seriously and always want to be open and honest with our members about these decisions. This time is no different. If you have any questions, you are welcome to contact any of the Board members and ask; we’d be happy to share with you.
God’s richest blessings on you and your families!
